Department News (5-12-14)

Tim Threfall and 16 MDT and BFA Acting students left on Monday, April 28 for the BFA Senior Showcase in New York. According to Tim, “It was year 12 of the Showcase and really the most successful New York presentation we’ve had. The level of performance for all 16 graduating Seniors was terrific.  Rachel Hoffman, well-known  NYC Casting Director with famed Telsey and Company Casting was our sponsor.  In addition to her visit to Provo and working with the students, she created an invitation list of her professional contacts.  The Showcase was well-attended and presented this year in the 199 seat Jerry Orbach Theatre in the Snapple Center Theatre in Manhattan.  The Jerry Orbach Theatre is home to the longest running off-Broadway show in history, THE FANTASTICKS.  The BFA seniors had to work around a few set pieces from THE FANTASTICKS, but the space was wonderful acoustically and we hope to use it for many years to come.  At least 50 MDT and BFA Acting alumni also attended the two performances and it was such a blessing to meet up with all of the past students. There is a very significant group of BFA MDT and Acting students living in Manhattan at this time.  All students participating in the Showcase this year received a call from and agent, manager, and/or Casting Director.  Some received as many as 10 interviews with agents!  Another five women in the group were invited to audition for the Broadway production of CINDERELLA and Michael Milkanin had an audition for the Broadway production of BOOK OF MORMON, THE MUSICAL the day after the first showcase performance.” For more information about each of the students in the showcase, please visit their website at
